A smart water distribution system combining IoT and AI to transform rigid networks into a conscious, fair, and sustainable ecosystem.
"Rawaa" is an integrated smart system for managing water distribution using Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). It turns traditional rigid networks into a conscious, fair, and sustainable system. The project provides real-time monitoring, leak detection, and equitable scheduling, serving both citizens and municipalities with transparency and efficiency.
Villages and cities today face fundamental challenges in water management: unclear pumping schedules causing constant anxiety, high water waste due to leaks and network chaos, and a lack of communication and transparency between citizens and municipalities. The problem worsens when pumping and distribution decisions are made without accurate data, relying on estimates, costing municipalities vast sums and wasting a scarce water resource.
An integrated smart system (IoT + AI) that knows where every drop goes, when each area's turn arrives to the second, detects leaks before they become problems, and ensures fair distribution with minimal loss. This solution is supported by a smart citizen app and a central municipality control system based on real-time data analysis, reducing complaints and accelerating fault response.
The concept of "Rawaa" is built on the idea that technology should serve people and bring them comfort, not confusion. It connects citizens to the network so they know exactly when water will reach their tanks, and gives decision-makers in municipalities a comprehensive, real-time view of the network as a living map — transforming water management from crisis response to proactive, fair management that builds smarter cities.
Development follows two integrated tracks (hardware and software): first, deploying IoT sensors and equipment on main valves and citizen tanks to monitor flow and pressure. Second, building a cloud-based SaaS platform powered by AI algorithms to analyze data, predict leaks, and automatically optimize distribution schedules, plus a mobile app providing instant notifications and consumption reports to residents.
The name "Rawaa" reflects the essence of life and quenching thirst. In Arabic, it derives from irrigation and fresh, abundant water that relieves thirst and brings comfort and reassurance. The name was chosen to symbolize the end of the anxiety and confusion associated with water outages and pumping schedules, serving as an umbrella for an ambitious project that seeks to revitalize water networks and ensure every fresh drop reaches its rightful recipients with fairness and efficiency.
The "Rawaa" logo embodies a visual identity that combines the purity of water with modern technological precision. The design uses flowing water droplet curves to reflect continuity and life, integrated with digital lines and engineering touches indicating smart networks and IoT. The symbolism is completed with technological blue gradients (Cyan & Deep Blue), where dark blue represents trust and institutional depth in dealing with municipalities, while turquoise blue reflects purity and technical innovation serving our communities.
We began our journey by tackling the toughest infrastructure challenges, going directly to the field to test the initial version in "Nuba village"; we successfully solved the water problem for 7,000 people who were in dire need of improved service. By analyzing network data, we managed to reduce water loss by 30% and cut daily citizen complaints and inquiries to the municipality by over 90%.
To ensure system sustainability and scalability, we developed advanced AI packages that learn from consumption habits and pumping schedules to provide optimal distribution recommendations. We also designed the smart app to gain residents' trust (exceeding 1,300 initial downloads), and enabled residents wishing to monitor their own tanks to purchase smart home sensors that connect directly to the app.
Finally, to ensure financial sustainability and transform the initiative into an investment project with steady income and a large market, we adopted a multi-source business model including: monthly and annual SaaS subscriptions for municipalities, IoT equipment sales and maintenance solutions for valves and tanks, technical support contracts, and providing anonymized data to research bodies to develop the water sector regionally.
Following the success of our pilot model, we are preparing this summer to expand coverage and solve the problem for over 50,000 people in new areas. Through Rawaa, we ambitiously aim to manage and develop the entire water distribution system in Palestine, Jordan, and the Gulf countries, spreading this digital infrastructure to cover all cities and villages suffering from distribution challenges and water scarcity. We also plan to develop automatic prediction algorithms for underground pipe fractures before surface flooding occurs, and link the system to solar energy to ensure the autonomous operation of smart valves in the harshest conditions.
